Award-Winning Children's Books | Free Reading List

Heather Hartman

Early literacy is a passion of mine, and one of my favorite ways to nurture my toddler's love of reading is by filling our home with thoughtfully written and illustrated children's books.

Over the last two and a half years, I have been building a collection of award-winning children's literature for my son. I created a spreadsheet to organize my reading lists, track the books we own, and easily search for new titles to add to our library.

I am sharing it with you for free!

The spreadsheet features winners and honorees from four prestigious children's book awards:

  • Caldecott Medal — Awarded annually to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
  • Newbery Medal — Awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
  • Sibert Medal — Recognizes the most distinguished informational book for children published in English.
  • Geisel Award — Honors the author and illustrator of the most distinguished book for beginning readers published in English in the United States.

The Caldecott and Newbery Medals are considered the two most prestigious awards in American children's literature.

Whether you're building your child's first library, looking for meaningful gifts (books are our FAVORITE gift!), or searching for your next great read-aloud, I hope this resource makes discovering wonderful books a little easier.

Enter your name and email to access the spreadsheet instantly. You can save your own copy to Google Drive and use it to organize your family's reading collection.
